Trip to Calais
Last weekend two members of the Just Shelter team went across to Calais to deliver much needed items to those in need. Here is an account of their trip from Alex who went there:
‘We travelled to Calais last Saturday 4th December with a van load of blankets and winter clothing kindly donated by our supporters. A huge thank you to all who contributed!
Having not travelled regularly due to the pandemic, it was a really valuable opportunity to touch base with all the new faces working and volunteering with our partner charities over there.
We spent the day volunteering with the amazing ‘Calais Food Collective’ who are running tailored dry food distribution to individuals and groups living rough in the area.
There are currently approx 2000 men, women and children living in squalid conditions coming into the winter and we intend to do everything we can to help support the incredible effort being put into trying to keep them fed, safe and warm in the absence of any government led humanitarian effort.
Thank you so much again for your support of our work here and abroad!’
